SUMMARY:

Physics is an experimental discipline with a broad connection to the reality surrounding
students; Physics Teaching must incorporate these two aspects into the classroom rou-
tine. In this dissertation, we present a proposal for using computer simulations to bring
theoretical content closer to the phenomenology it aims to describe. Our proposal, based
on Anna Maria de Carvalho, explores problem situations to promote meaningful learning
and seeks to awaken in students an active stance by using a tool that allows learning
through investigation and the performance of investigative demonstrations. The resulting
Educational Product consists of a didactic sequence on geometric optics, comprising a set
of classes on the GlowScript platform. In addition, the Educational Product introduces the
reader to the Python programming language and the GlowScript environment. The goal is
to provide an interactive environment that engages high school students in active learning
of Physics. We emphasize the association between the classroom and using computers as
an enriching and enhancing resource in the teaching and learning process. The GlowScript
environment allows the development of multiple functions directly in the browser, using
the Vpython module to easily create and manipulate three-dimensional figures/objects and
plot function graphs and drawing curves. It is possible to create animations of physical
phenomena based on the solution of the fundamental equations that govern the temporal
evolution of the quantities that describe the system’s behavior. We designed the code to
allow the user to interact with the simulation, modifying the parameters and the initial
conditions or even rewriting it.
