Autism Spectrum Disorder in adult rats exposed to valproic acid during the gestational period: evaluation
of auditory behavior and evaluation of the central nervous system after treatment with Copaíba essential
oil and Breu Branco essential oil.
Autism Spectrum Disorder. Copaíba Essential Oil. white pitch Essential Oil. Heart.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is consideres one of the most serious childhood neuropsychiatric disorders, with a high prevalence in males. Its characteristic features until impairment of reciprocal social interaction and communication skills, lack of interest, presence of behavioral stereotypes, verbal and non-verbal impairment, cognitive déficits and language delays. Despite being closely associated with behavioral changes, autism may have associated comorbidities. Treatment is based on a multidisciplinar team and, in some cases, the use of medications to control specific symptoms. It is worth mentioning that treatment proposals have been emerging, one of which is widely accepted, but which is still difficult to access and has a high cost, which is cannabidiol. The difficulty of access for consumption and even for studies that can verify the therapeutic and side effects of phytocannabinoids, has aroused curiosity for Other active ingredients that can respond in a similar way, among them we have the essential oils of copaíba and white pitch. This study proposed to evaluate
the vascular and cardiac effects of treatment with copaíba essential oil and White rosin in adult wistar rats exposed to valproic acid during pregnancy. To this end, copaíba essential oil and white pitch essential oil, comercial TERRA® produtcs, were used, administered via gavage, for 30 consecutive days. For the induction of autism, pregnant rats received 600mg/kg oj valproic acid diluted in saline solution intraperitoneally on the 13th day of the prenatal period according to the experimental model described in the literature. The following analyzes were performed: biometris data, oxidative stress, serum biochemistry, histopathological analysis, morphology and morphometry, total collagen and karyometry. A reduction in superoxide dismutase, catalase and creatine kinase and an increase in total antioxidant activity and manoldialdehyde were observed. The presence of myocarditis, vacuolization and necrosis of cardiomyocytes was verified. There was no significant change in area and diameter, but there was an increase in the volume density and length of cardiomyocytes and a decrease in the volume density of blood vessels and interstices and the length density of blood vessels. Exposure to valproic acid during the intrauterine period caused changes in the cardiac microstructure. However, the use of copaíba and white pitch essential oils led to oxidative and nitrosative stress, and the association of the two oils has promising results in reversing this condition.
