SUMMARY:

The participation of women in the Homeless Workers’ Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem-Teto – MTST) reveals that urban militancy constitutes not only a response to housing inequalities, but also a formative process that involves collective organization, political participation and the construction of meanings about the city and about themselves as political subjects. In a context marked by socio-spatial inequalities and by structural relations of gender, race and class, women play a central role in the production of practices of solidarity, care and mobilization, contributing to the development of political repertoires and to the formation of leadership within the movement. This study aims to investigate how the life trajectories and militancy experiences of women from MTST in Pernambuco are articulated with processes of political learning and with the production of political culture. The research will be conducted with three women who hold leadership roles in the movement, using oral history as its central methodological approach, articulated with contributions from ethnographic experience and an intersectional perspective in the production and analysis of narratives. The study seeks to understand how these formative experiences are constructed in the everyday life of occupations and in other organizational spaces, highlighting the challenges, shifts and possibilities involved in the performance of these leaderships across different arenas of social and political dispute.
