SUMMARY:

This research addresses the complex issue of homeless women, focusing on the city of Recife-PE, and analyzes the topic from the perspective of intersectionality, considering gender, race and class. According to the 2022 Demographic Census and the POP Rua Brasil 2023 Report, Brazil has around 104.5 million women, of which 30,732 live on the streets. Despite representing only 13% of the homeless population, women are the majority in cases of violence reported by SINAN (40% in 2022), with a focus on transgender women. Data on these women is fragmented and insufficient, hindering the formulation of effective public policies. Considering this, this research seeks to answer the question: "What is the place of femininity in cities considering the experience of public space from the perspective of gender, race and class by homeless women?" The objectives include mapping the profile of these women in Recife, analyzing the gender specificities of homelessness, and identifying how the experiences of the workers also influence their perceptions of the women served by the facility, and impact the way in which these users’ needs are met. The methodology is based on the qualitative analysis of primary and secondary data, using intersectionality as a critical social theory. Primary data collection includes focus groups with workers from the POP Glória Center, narrative interviews with homeless women, and thematic discussion groups. Secondary data analysis will be performed through reading and interpreting the questionnaires applied in the POP Rua Recife Census.
