SUMMARY:

This study investigates the role of Afro-Brazilian literature in the construction of identities and senses of belonging of children who attend the Coque libraries in Recife (PE). The research seeks to understand how these narratives contribute to the identity and territorial formation of black children, engaging with issues of representation, racism and anti-racist education. Through a qualitative approach, based on ethnographic research and analysis of literary mediations, the study explores the ways in which Afro-Brazilian literature can strengthen self-esteem, racial awareness and recognition of territorial ancestry. The study highlights the importance of community libraries as spaces of resistance and promotion of cultural diversity, in addition to pointing out the need for pedagogical practices that value Afro-Brazilian history and culture from early childhood education onwards.
