The life trajectory of black people in Brazil was historically and socially guided by inequality and segregation. A reflection, above all, of their forced and cruel insertion in the country, when they were kidnapped, brought to Brazil and forced to perform slave labor for more than three centuries, in sugarcane and coffee plantations, in the extraction of precious stones, in domestic work. The second exclusion factor observed is due to the fact that, even after the abolition of slavery, black people were left to their own devices without means of managing and guaranteeing their lives, as pointed out by Abdias Nascimento (1980) and Florestan Fernandes ( 2008). Furthermore, discrimination, marginalization and racism kept them far from access to basic social rights such as food, health, education and employment, which forced them to look for ways to survive in places far from urban centers, as is the case of quilombos. As a result, many freedmen had enormous difficulties integrating themselves into national society, so that the perpetuation of marginality and inequalities that we detect in everyday life is largely due to this moment in the country's history. Therefore, this research proposal arises from the need to investigate how quilombola students have entered and remained in higher education courses at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, assisted by the permanence grant program? To this end, research will be carried out with a qualitative focus, using a bibliographic and documentary review and semi-structured interviews with quilombola students.
