SUMMARY:

The connection between languages, cultures and identities has been the subject of several studies and debates around the world, especially in educational terms. Learning a language, whether as a first or second language, permeates other issues that are part of speakers' subjectivities. Such subjectivities also encompass the identities of learners, who, by learning more about other cultures, can also approach matters related to their own. In the case of English language teaching in Brazil, we believe that it is urgent to consider issues related to cultural, ethnic and racial diversity, in order to promote an anti-racist and decolonial linguistic education. In this sense, the Afrocentric perspective emerges as a decolonial strategy that seeks the rupture of Eurocentrism, which excludes subaltern identities, thus bringing African and Afro-Brazilian cultures and histories to the heart of the discussion. Therefore, through this research, we aim to understand whether and how teaching English from an Afrocentric Decolonial perspective can contribute to the language learning and to the strengthening of black students' identities in Brazil. In order to do so, we have chosen the online English course offered by Odara English School as the context for our research. The study will be carried out through a qualitative netnographic approach, which includes participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Finally, the interpretative analysis of the data will allow a critical reflection of the information and categories found, in order to answer the questions proposed in our objectives.
