SUMMARY:

The last few decades have been marked by advances in the production of knowledge related to environmental education, but apparently in the same proportion or even more intensified way the setback is going. Environmental education is present in the most diverse segments of society, it can be seen in discussions at home about whether or not to separate wet (organic) from dry waste, in a class on solid waste reuse, in state initiatives for schools to address the socio-environmental theme, in private institutions or spaces of informal education. Formal, non-formal and informal education (which is not the focus of this investigation) appears in the scientific literature as antagonistic, as if they were competing for space in the lives of students and educators, but in our understanding these nuances of education are complementary among themselves, because formal education does not cope with all the demands of contemporary times, as well as non-formal and informal education, alone do not cope with the human dimensions and the relationships that humanity establishes with each other and with nature. In this research, we aimed to analyze the existing dialogue between the school and the community regarding critical environmental education in public squares, considering limits and potentialities in the actions of adolescents in elementary school. For this, a study will be carried out based on listening to teachers and adolescents/students, who address the socio-environmental theme in two public schools in Recife. Initially, an exploratory study will be carried out in order to find out which schools discuss and experience actions on the EE theme in dialogue with the surrounding community and later interviews and participant observations will be carried out in order to collect and build the data that will be analyzed according to textual analysis discursive - ATD.
