SUMMARY:

Tetranychus urticae Koch and Plutella xylostella (L.) are species that occur in several economically important crops and are known for their ability to rapidly develop resistance to pesticides. An alternative that causes less damage to the ecosystem is the use of natural products derived from plants such as extracts and essential oils. Ethanol extracts from the leaves of Ipomoea pes-caprae, I. alba and I. carnea were analyzed by HPLC-MS in which it presented classes such as flavonoids and cinnamic acid. I. batatas and I. carnea proved to be toxic to the spider mite. The residual acaricidal contact tests with the extracts revealed greater toxicity for the species I. carnea, being about 3 times more toxic than I. batatas. Azamax®, a commercially sold acaricide, proved to be more toxic than all extracts. Obtaining the LC50 of ethanolic extracts from the leaves of I. indica, I. alba and I. pes-caprae will be carried out in the future. In the essential oils of the leaves and flowers of Ipomoea, only monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes were found based on the method of obtaining the oil and the identification of the constituents. Acaricide and insecticide tests will be carried out with essential oils from leaves and flowers of Ipomoea species. The species of Ipomoea pes-capare was submitted to different abiotic stress conditions, such as the addition of metabolite elicitors such as methyl jasmonate (MJ) and methyl salicylate (MS), stress with UV incidence, saline stress and manual predation with cuts to the around the leaf. Essential oils were extracted for analysis in GC-MS and their constituents were identified. Based on Molecular Network and PCA analysis of Ipomoea oils, this chemical investigation revealed that β-caryophyllene was the sesquiterpene identified in all analyzed oil samples. Phytol was found in all samples, being the main constituent in SM, UV and Sal stresses. Fatty acids, such as hexadecanoic acid and n-eicosane, appeared with a higher percentage in SM, UV and Salt stresses and also appeared in all samples studied here.
