Local History, History Teaching and Cultural Heritage.
This research analyzes how History teachers have worked with cultural heritage, through the teaching of History, in the modality of High School in the state schools of Caruaru. The school institution is recognized for its important role as a mediator of the experience with the past, memory and history, as well as for its relevance in the construction of narratives and interpretation of reality. Teachers, on the other hand, as they are the professionals who, by the nature of their craft, work with the critical reflection of history, as well as seek to foster social identity and the construction of scientific thinking in the school environment and outside it, bringing cultural heritage and local history, through their teachings and practices, are the main characters of our investigation. The approach to Local History and Heritage Education become tools for these teachers - even in the face of the challenges and fluctuating particularities of High School - in the preparation of students who know their history, who value their memory and therefore feel they belong to the culture to which they are inserted.
