TRANSGRESSIONAL WOMEN
Daily Life, Representations and Gender Violence in Pernambuco (1890-1920)
Gender violence; Women; Representation.
This study aims to analyze female transgressions and violence suffered by women in Pernambuco between the years 1890 and 1920. To achieve these purposes, we use a conceptual framework that addresses the categories of gender, violence, transgression and everyday life, based on Feminist Epistemologies, Cultural History and Cultural History of Crime and Criminality. The study is based on the analysis of three documentary corpuses, one of which refers to criminal proceedings located in the Memorial da Justiça de Pernambuco, whose source collection is in the final phase. The other set of sources are the publications on the subject of the research in the newspapers Diário de Pernambuco and Jornal Pequeno, which circulated throughout the state of Pernambuco between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, available in the Digital Hemeroteca of the National Library. Finally, we will also use the novels by Mario Sette, Senhora de Engenho, O Vigia da Casa Grande, Filha de Dona Sinhá; the novel The Walled-Up Street, by Carneiro Vilela; and Recife: capital of the state of Pernambuco, almanac written by Barbosa Viana.
