Goiana – PE, the perceived heritage. Memory in the cultural preservation of the historic site.
Historic Site, Listing, Cultural Heritage, Memory, Appropriation of the Place
The present work aims to identify the importance of the historical, urban and landscape heritage of the city of Goiana - Pernambuco, in order to contribute to the listing process, considering not only the value of the built heritage, but its relationship with the population. The choice of this theme was motivated by the experience and observation of the constant loss of heritage. The lack of listing causes degradation and destruction of this site and, despite there being a listing process since 2001 that has not yet been approved, it has been mischaracterized. At this time, the process is once again studying a new perimeter for listing the historic center. Meanwhile, the city has been losing its physical characteristics. Goiana has records of the first clusters in the 16th century. The place was the scene of struggles to conquer the place, political struggles for freedom and great economic development in the region. Today the city is experiencing a new economic and cultural development that changes its urban landscape. Its heritage encompasses, in addition to architectural constructions and public spaces, meanings, identities and memories, in a phenomenological way, where the place has its own spirit, as in addition to being conceived it is also perceived and experienced by its residents. To achieve this, the research is based on heritage theories, searching in memory and sensitivity, with the help of phenomenology, the representation, significance and identification of this place by its population, using oral research through questionnaires and recordings. The aim is to recognize the relationships between individuals and their historical site and the influence of this place on their emotional memory. This feeling of belonging will contribute to the understanding that preserving heritage goes beyond buildings.
