The general objective of this research work was to analyze the implementation of the Distance Learning Degree in History at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), in the period between 2009 and 2015. The focus was on the interactions between practices that took place in the course , in the demands of teacher-historian training, in the context of digital culture, and in the conditions given to federal public institutions of higher education, whose offerings depend on the financial support of the Open University of Brazil (UAB). Thinkers from different areas of knowledge contributed to the study, such as Pierre Levy (1999; 2015), Manuel Castells (1999; 2003; 2013), Nicolau Sevcenco (2001), Paulo Freire and Roger Chartier (1999; 2002). To meet our objective, we examined oral sources, produced from interviews carried out with teachers and students of the first class of the course, and written sources, such as the Pedagogical Project of the Course and educational legislation, notably that focused on Distance Education. . We understand that the research collaborated to expand studies in the area of initial formation of History teachers, in dialogue with digital culture, based on reflections that contemplated contemporary demands and issues of education and the specificities of the area.
