Mosquitoes biodiversity in Atlantic Forest Remnant and the new Culicidae occurrences in Northeastern region, Brazil.
Sabethes amazonicus; Wyeomyia abebela; Culex originator; sylvatic mosquitoes.
To investigate the biodiversity and seasonality of culicidae in an Atlantic Forest remnant in the state of Pernambuco, field expeditions were conducted, resulting in the collection of 571 mosquitoes. These specimens represent 24 species distributed across 10 genera and 6 tribes. Through traditional taxonomy and molecular analysis via COI (Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I), this study reports the first occurrence records of Culex originator, Sabethes amazonicus, and Wyeomyia abebela in Pernambuco. Furthermore, the presence of several arbovirus vector species was confirmed, including Aedes aegypti, Culex quinquefasciatus, Haemagogus janthinomys, and Sabethes albiprivus. The data also indicate a positive correlation between the rainy season and species abundance. In contrast, the dry season appears to favor rare or generalist species.
