SUMMARY:

As a contribution to establish the taxonomic limits of Leptinoterus, it is offered the redescription of five species, the designation of four Lectotypes and one Neotype, representing the firsts steps for conducting a taxonomic revision with good referenced primary types. Lectotypes of Leptinopterus gracilis Boileau, 1899, Leptinopterus atramentarius Nagel, 1928, Leptinopterus suturalis Luederwaldt, 1930, and Leptinopterus nitidus Luederwaldt, 1930, are designated herein. Additionally, a neotype is designated for Leptinopterus bicolor Luederwaldt, 1931, and its geographic distribution is updated. The identifications were accurately conducted based on the original descriptions and examination of the type specimens.
