A Didactic Approach to Mathematics Assessment: A Study of Sixth-Grade Teachers’ Evaluation Practices in Elementary Education
School assessment. Mathematics. Didactic approach to assessment. Evaluative logic. Evaluative episodes
This study aims to analyze the assessment practices in mathematics of sixth-grade teachers in elementary school. The research is based on the theoretical framework of the didactic approach to assessment in mathematics. This framework articulates two axes for analyzing assessment practices in mathematics: one focused on the evaluative episodes proposed to students, and the other structured by the teachers’ evaluative logic. The research methodology, centered on the production of data about the evaluative episodes, will be developed through classroom observation and video recording, aiming at the analysis of assessment moments, assessment tasks, management (type of regulation), and the didactic contract of assessment. To study the evaluative logic, through interviews, we will seek to analyze: the design of assessment documents, professional and didactic judgment in assessment, and the attribution of grades (notation) by the teachers.
