Entrepreneurship and Mathematical Modeling: a study on costs and benefits with 3rd-year high school students
Financial Education; Teaching and Learning; Entrepreneurship and Mathematical Modeling
This study aims to analyze possibilities for teaching and learning about Entrepreneurship in the light of Mathematical Modeling. Among the theoretical frameworks on Mathematical Modeling, we take as reference the model proposed by Dionísio Burak. The notion of Entrepreneurship is discussed based on curricular guidelines and literature in the areas of Education and Mathematical Education. This research will be conducted with high school students from a state school in the metropolitan region of Recife, in an elective course on financial education and entrepreneurship, which is a curricular component of high school education in Pernambuco. At the end of the research, we intend to analyze each phase of Mathematical Modeling: choice of topic, exploratory research, identification of problems, problem solving, and development of mathematics related to the topic, as well as critical analysis of the solution(s).
