SEXUALITY IN ITS BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL DIMENSION: THE TRAINING OF PEDAGOGUES IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF NATURAL SCIENCES BASED ON CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS
Controversial Issues; Sexuality Education; Teacher Education; Interdisciplinary Didactic Workshops; Science Education.
This study delves into the formative process undertaken by future educators when addressing controversial issues related to children's sexuality. Sexuality is a widely studied topic by researchers worldwide and is considered controversial in many social contexts, including schools and families. This controversy stems from various factors, including cultural, religious, and ideological differences. Furthermore, discussions about sexuality are often avoided in society, creating a gap in parent-child communication. Similarly, in educational settings, educators tend to limit discussions to biological aspects due to fear, lack of knowledge, or personal beliefs. By highlighting the gap in teacher education for addressing controversial topics like sexual education, this study employs Interdisciplinary Teaching Workshops (ITWs) to guide pre-service educators in engaging with this subject while enabling them to explore socio-scientific controversies. The research methodology involves data collection within a specific discipline through written assignments, developing an ITW proposal focusing on childhood sexuality in its biopsychosocial dimension, sharing these proposals among participants, and administering self-evaluation questionnaires.
