SUMMARY:

The research aims to analyze the signs of educational innovation in the initial training of future teachers in the Pedagogical Residency Program of the Degree in Biological Sciences at a Federal Higher Education Institution in Pernambuco. Educational innovation has been seen as inducing changes in educational systems, and its importance is widely recognized and listed in several educational guidance documents, namely: Leis de Diretrizes Básica da Educação Nacional (LDBEN); National Education Plan (PNE); CNE/CP Resolution No. 02/2015 National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and CNE/CP Resolution No. 02/2019, having played a fundamental role in building more active and meaningful learning in teacher training. The study involves a qualitative approach, with an exploratory/explanatory nature, using semi-structured interviews with the preceptor teachers and the supervising teacher, and through a focus group with the program's residents, with the interpretation of data through content analysis. The concept, in addition to being something under permanent construction, has a wide network of meanings that are associated with the educational process. From a literature review, it was possible to understand that educational innovation has been presented as something new, with a view to changes and improvements in the training process, teaching-learning, curricular reform and disruption of traditional teaching. Educational innovation brings to teaching practice the “need” for innovative knowledge, which consists of four dimensions: Knowledge Dimension, Skills Dimension, Engagement Dimension and Adaptation Dimension.
