SUMMARY:

Given the challenges that we encountered over the years as a teacher of Basic Education regarding the development of mathematical thinking, especially with the evolution of technology, we propose as the main objective of our study to propose a didactic engineering that promotes the development of geometric thinking, through the semiotic registers of representation of Duval (2011), to 2nd year high school students, with activities that address the polyhedra: prisms and pyramids. Our study is based on two aspects that motivated us to choose the object and study, polyhedra: prisms and pyramids. The first aspect is related to the difficulties observed regarding the teaching and learning processes evidenced in researches, results of internal and external evaluations and by the own experience as a basic education teacher over the years, another aspect is denoted by the need to seek methodologies that can change the current scenario regarding the teaching and learning of Geometry contents. We adopted Duval's Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers - TRRS (1995) as a theoretical reference, since it is associated with the diversity of types of semiotic representation, crucial to the cognitive analysis of mathematical activity and essential in the understanding of concepts, argumentation and reasoning. We chose to carry out an experimental research with qualitative and quantitative approach, to be developed in a state public school in the city of Flores - PE. The instruments of production and collection of data will be: interview with the mathematics teacher of the class that will participate of the research; observation of the classes that will be recorded in audio or video; the investigator's logbook. The GeoGebra Classroom study group; the questionnaires. All these data will be transcribed, to constitute the data for source of analysis, which emerged according to the theoretical framework adopted, from some aspects of the methodology of Didactic Engineering described by Artigue (1996). Finally, we will seek answers to the following guiding question: To what extent the Didactic Engineering proposed in this research can promote the development of geometric thinking of 2nd year high school students, when solving a sequence of didactic activities, which addresses the concepts and properties of polyhedra: prisms and pyramids, through the various registers of semiotic representation?
