SUMMARY:

This work aims to investigate whether and how the contradictions related to the theme "Infodemia: Quantity versus quality", approached from the PBL, can contribute to the emergence of signs of expansive learning by students in chemistry classes at a state technical school in Pernambuco. , in the technical courses of Nutrition and Dietetics and Pharmacy. For this, a didactic intervention based on PBL was structured, lasting ten classes, to be applied in the 3rd bimester of the 2022 school year of a 1st year class of the new high school in Brazil. The present study involves a qualitative case study approach. The methodological procedures adopted for the development of the research were organized in three stages: 1) Structuring the didactic intervention entitled “Infodemia: Quantity versus quality”; 2) Development of the didactic intervention and 3) Analysis of the didactic intervention. Data for research analysis are made up of students' productions in activities: Written resolution of problem P1; debate on foods with alkaline properties as a possible measure to prevent COVID-19, for verbal resolution of the P1 problem, which will be recorded on video; planning an experimental activity, which evidences the acidic or alkaline behavior of foods highlighted in a news item (problem P2); experimental activity to identify the presence of vitamin C in foods, for example, in fruit juices; report, and questions for resolution and discussion on the topic (problem P3); focal critical debate on the controversy involved in the relationship between Vitamin C supplementation and COVID-19 prevention (problem P4); and elaboration of the digital pamphlet that will deal with how to evaluate the veracity or not of the most varied information from social networks (problem P5), to be displayed daily on television at the school clinic of Pharmacy and Nutrition and Dietetics courses. To carry out the data analysis, analytical categories were established a priori, based on principles of activity theory, according to Engeström: Unit of analysis, Multiple voice, Historicity, Contradictions and expansive Transformations, and in the Seven Learning Actions in a Learning Cycle ( Questioning, Analysis, Modeling of the new solution, Examination of the new model, Implementation of the new model, Reflection on the process and Consolidation of the new practice).
