SUMMARY:

Plants undergo vital biosynthesis processes, involving the production,
storage and decomposition of organic substances. The objective was to identify the
classes of secondary metabolites and detect the presence of sodium monofluoroacetate in
crude extract of Palicourea hoffmannseggiana, P. capitata, P. barbiflora and P. colorata.
Samples of each specimen of the aforementioned plants were dried in a
air circulation at a temperature of 50°C until the weight is completely stabilized. To the
obtaining the crude extract, 20g of each sample was separated, dehydrated and crushed
(leaves and fruits\flowers), placed in a 500 ml Erlenmeyer flask and added 400 ml of
90% ethyl alcohol. At the end of the three filterings, the content obtained was taken to the
Rotavapor R- 210 BUCHI for evaporating alcohol and obtaining the plant extract.
Extraction of plant material for monofluoroacetate was carried out with water extraction and
the samples sent to EMBRAPA Ceará for HPLC chromatography.
Water and alcoholic plant extracts were used in a bioassay with brine shrimp
salt pans, screening process. The classes of secondary metabolites found in EB
from P. barbiflora were flavonones, xanthones, catechins and steroids. In P. capitata EB
leaf was found steroid. A steroid was found in EB leaf of P. colorata,
saponin and alkaloid and EB seed steroid and saponin. In the EB sheet of P.
hoffmannseggiana steroid, saponin and alkaloid were found in the EB seed
just steroids. The bioassay with alcoholic extract demonstrated greater bioactivity in
P. capitata, seed (Lethal dose of 0.14), followed by P. barbiflora (Lethal dose of 5.44). At
Phytochemical analysis allows directing studies to determine substances
potentially toxic. More studies must be carried out to isolate and quantify
substances toxic to animals.
