PROTEOMICAL ANALYSIS OF FELINE MAMMARY CARCINOMA: STRATEGIES AND CHALLENGES
cancer, mastectomy, biomarkers, LC-MS/MS, mass spectrometry.
Feline mammary carcinoma is an aggressive malignancy, with a low survival rate and which requires viable therapeutic options in addition to mastectomy. Studies have been carried out to understand the molecular mechanisms linked to the development of this oncological disease. Proteomics has become an important field in molecular sciences as it provides valuable information about the identity, expression levels and post-translational modification of proteins. In this sense, cancer proteomics demonstrates important information in studies on behavior, tumor growth and metastasis, which contributed to the identification of clinically applicable biomarkers, as well as therapeutic targets. The objective of this review is to provide an overview of cancer proteomics and recent advances in proteomic techniques as well as the perspective on application in the study of feline mammary carcinoma in order to outline targeted and effective therapies.
