SUMMARY:

In a scenario of water scarcity and population growth, the increase in the productivity of crops with a low consumption of water and energy resources is vital to guarantee food security on a global scale. Achieving the productivity and growth potential of an agricultural crop depends on the characterization and definition of several local attributes related to nutritional management. In tomato crops, nitrogen bioavailability is the main limiting agent, for this reason the use of nitrogen fertilization has increased, achieving productivity gains. However, the risks of contamination of groundwater and lake environments must be monitored, in addition to the increase in expenses with excessive dosages. The objective of this work was to analyze, in a tomato hybrid of determined growth, aspects related to the identification of non-destructive methods capable of characterizing a phenotypic variation caused by the accumulation of nitrogen in the plant tissue and physiological aspects related to the effect of increasing the concentration of nitrogen no water consumption. For this purpose, two experiments were set up: first, a survey was carried out in a commercial tomato crop in the region of Irecê-Ba classic to isolate phenotypes of the TY-2006 hybrid that varied by nitrogen availability through the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). ) and soil-plant development analysis (SPAD), an experimental field of 0.9408ha was monitored for determinations of leaf nitrogen content, SPAD reading using a chlorophyllmeter, productivity data based on the weight of fruits per plant ( PFP) and NDVI by image capture by a multispectral sensor coupled to a drone in an area of 84x112m divided into a 49 cell grid.; second, a hydroponic cultivation experiment with the same hybrid verifying the effect of five nitrogen cultures in the nutrient solution used for cultivation (85.5; 128.3; 171; 213.8 and 256.1 ppm of N) on variation in plant fresh mass and water consumption estimated by an autonomous system of weighing of pots. In addition, leaf nitrogen content (TNF), SPAD index, quantum efficiency of photosystem II (Ph), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ), dry mass (DM), and water use efficiency (USA) were analyzed. . The first experiment showed that NDVI and SPAD were not able to separate phenotypes that varied by nitrogen bioavailability from phenotypes that varied by the action of other stressors. The second experiment showed that the overdose of nitrogen in the nutrient solution causes an increase in water consumption, affecting the profitability of tomato crops.
