"HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES IN THE TERRITORY OF THE FERNANDO DE NORONHA ARCHIPELAGO - PE"
Food sovereignty, agrobiodiversity, oceanic islands
Agroecology is a field of scientific knowledge which, based on a holistic and systemic approach, aims to help societies redirect the altered course of social and ecological coevolution, in its many different interrelationships and mutual influences (CAPORAL, 2009). Thus, progress towards biodiversity conservation and food security lies in careful practices in the management and production of one's own food. The aim of this study is to investigate, observe and analyze how the farmers of the Noronha Terra Association for Agroecological Development on the island of Fernando de Noronha develop their activities with a focus on preserving their agrobiodiversity and providing an alternative for food production and conservation of their territories. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with members to understand the weaknesses, challenges and possibilities of producing their own food. Plant tissue culture will be tested as an alternative tool to vegetative propagation, developing protocols for laboratory multiplication of plant material of interest to the island. This biotechnology technique produces healthy material in greater quantities than traditional propagation. So that they can produce their own food and have the choice to do so, as well as receiving less interference from food from the mainland. Avoiding the entry of exotic materials to the island, which can create an imbalance between native species. And with the production of a manual to guide the management of cultivars produced in vitro. With a presentation of the technique to farmers.
