Domesticated pigs belong to the genus Sus and come from Asian, Iberian and Celtic regions. The arrival of pigs in Brazil dates back to the colonial period, and pork has been part of the Brazilian diet ever since. The aim of this project is to study the viability of pig farming in the light of the agro-ecological transition in the quilombola community of Mari, in Palmas de Monte Alto, Sertão Produtivo Territory - BA. The aim is to identify, characterize and describe the food, reproductive and health management systems used to raise the Baé pig breed, with a view to its conservation in situ. In addition, the objective is to address the importance of agro-ecological pig production with a focus on the relationship that the quilombolas of Palmas de Monte Alto establish with Baé pigs; for this reason, the methodological path chosen to weave the intercultural relationship mentioned above will be Participatory Genetic Improvement, which provides for the collective construction of knowledge based on the ways of life of traditional peoples and their agricultural systems, from a perspective of dialogue of knowledge that takes into account what is collectively constructed by a specific people. As a final product of the thesis, the idea is to develop a Participatory Genetic Improvement Program for Baé pigs with the quilombola community of Mari, in Palmas de Monte Alto, Sertão Produtivo Territory, in Bahia.
