AGROECOLOGY, CREOLE SEEDS AND FOOD SOVEREIGNTY: AN ANALYSIS OF COMMUNITY SEED BANKS IN THE SEMIARIDE REGION IN ALAGOASAgroecology; Peasant communities; Food sovereignty; Biodiversity
Community Seed Banks have been an important alternative for the maintenance and storage of the most varied plant species, especially those of agricultural importance. Responding to a demand generated by the communities consulted, this research has the general objective of analyzing the contributions of seed banks to the conservation of biodiversity and to strengthening the autonomy and food sovereignty of peasant communities in the backlands of Alagoas, making available, in an organized manner, its results in a digital database with free and collective access and in the format of a mobile application. Considering that little has yet been studied about community seed banks and their representation within rural communities in Alagoas, this research emerges as relevant in the effort to deepen information about the subject under study. The work will be qualitative in nature and the principles of action research will be adopted. The research will be carried out in the Immediate Geographical Region of Delmiro Gouveia and in the Immediate Geographical Region of Santana do Ipanema, from which four community seed banks were identified in four different municipalities, with which we will work. It is hoped in this research that the results contribute to the improvement of community seed banks in Alagoas from the awakening of the State and civil society about their importance for the territories in which they are inserted. It is also expected that the final product will allow access to the most varied knowledge produced in each community, in addition to cultural exchange and exchange of seeds in the most diverse regions of the state by the farmers involved.
