WHICH WAY DO THE WINDS BLOW? SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONFLICTS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CAETÉS/PE
Renewable energy; Environmental Indicators; Sustainability.
The recent concern with energy security and with the environmental impacts, resulting from the expansion of current consumption, has induced the diversification of the matrices and, among them, the advances in wind energy are noticeable, as it is an inexhaustible source and already consolidated in the market. However, wind farms present challenges to be faced, so that their negative impacts are minimized, since their implantation together with rural territories configures an intrinsic and complex relationship between nature and society. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the socioeconomic and environmental conflicts that wind energy generator complexes entail for peasant people and rural areas in the municipality of Caetés/PE. To this end, an exploratory-descriptive and qualitative-quantitative research will be carried out, based on the use of semi-structured questionnaires, containing environmental indicators. It should be noted that the analysis of impacts will take place according to the perception of peasant people who live with wind turbines in their territories. The possible correlations of the impacts and the variables presented in the territories will also be verified through the analysis of the main components. Based on the results obtained, it is expected to contribute to future decision-making regarding the minimization of impacts and contribution to improving the quality of life of the population residing close to wind farms. In addition, it is intended to offer society a product that will be materialized in the form of a documentary to warn about the risks that territories may suffer to the detriment of the installation of poorly planned wind farms.
