The sertanejos, the trees and the animals: the forage forest management of the Caatinga in mitigating the effects of drought on milk production in the Valmir Mota Rural Settlement, in Sergipe
Agrosilvipastoral system; peasantry; semiarid
The work presented here will address the need to mitigate the effects of drought on dairy farming in the Valmir Mota settlement, located in Canindé do São Francisco, a territory in the Alto Sertão of Sergipe. To this end, we propose the interaction between the milk production system and the Caatinga forest areas. Based on a critical and propositional dialogue between popular and academic knowledge, we intend to collectively encourage the rational and effective use of native tree species in the diet of cattle. To this end, we will use a qualitative approach and participatory methodologies. Thus, it is expected the reduction of costs with this productive activity and in line with the maintenance of natural forests.
