SOWING AGROBIODIVERSITY WITH RURAL YOUTH: EDUCATION IN
AGROECOLOGY IN THE GOITÁ BASIN/PE
: Biotechnologies, Rural Education, Rural Youth, Creole Seeds
The world Agrifood System is dominated by transnational companies that determine what should be produced/consumed, how it should be produced, where and for whom it is produced. A central point of this concentration is the impacts on agrobiodiversity, specifically, seeds. Since the Green Revolution, the production and use of transgenic and hybrid seeds has intensified, which end up hurting the autonomy and food security of peasant populations. Many of these people have their basic rights constantly violated, resulting in a rural exodus and, consequently, an aging process in the countryside. Rural youth, a central social group for a rural succession, seek urban centers because they believe that they will have more opportunities to achieve their life projects there. Contrary to this, social movements fight for the realization of Rural Education, with a view to contextualized training that values life and work in rural areas. Thus, we intend to analyze the importance of the theme of Creole Seeds for rural young people, and how rural schools approach the subject. Also, observe, among the contents treated by these schools, which ones are of greatest interest to youths, so that they really make sense to their daily lives. Therefore, in addition to theoretical and documentary research, we will have meetings with a focus group composed of 20 young people participating in the Projeto Semear / SERTA, to better deepen the discussions on creole seeds and Rural Education. Finally, as a Final Product, in addition to implemented social technologies, we intend to prepare a Technical-Conclusive Report, as well as podcasts on the topics covered, with the participation of young people.
