"Our crew is dreary" - brega-funk as a representation of Recife's periphery
cheesy-funk; discourse; territory
This research aims to investigate a relationship between socioeconomic inequality in the city of Recife and the discourse present in brega-funk songs. Therefore, recent data on the subject involving the capital of Pernambuco will be raised and discussed. There will also be a historical contextualization of its foundation and the establishment of the current center-periphery configuration that exists in it. Brega-funk will be presented as a phenomenon that reflects and produces conflicts between Recife's socioeconomic classes, in addition to being characterized as an event that establishes an intrinsic equivalence between peripheric individuals and the periphery of the city. The corpus is composed of three songs by different authors that have more than a million views on YouTube, having been released after 2018, which is considered the year that brega-funk reached national success. The songs will be analyzed based on Critical Discourse Analysis, more specifically on the approach of discourse as a representation of social events.
