Phraseologisms. Stories. Ariano Suassuna. Northeastern Culture. Popular Language.
Phraseologisms, understood as fixed expressions of common use, play a fundamental role in popular communication and reflect the values, beliefs, and traditions of a given social group. This dissertation's main objective is to build an example through the study of phraseological units present in Ariano Suassuna's stories on the digital platform YouTube. This research classifies the phraseological units found in the corpus, thus contributing to the studies of Phraseology following Mejri's theoretical proposal and disseminating the Northeastern culture through Suassuna's stories, who always defended cultural appreciation. The theoretical discussion is based on Silva and Isquerdo (2020), Paim (2018), Monteiro-Plantin (2017), Mejri (1997; 2012), Marcuschi (2007), Bakhtin (2003), Barbosa (2001) and Biderman (1998). The methodology adopted consists of reading and analyzing a selection of the author's stories, identifying and categorizing the phraseological units used, in addition to exploring their meaning and function in the context of the narrative. The sample consists of 44 phraseological units, which were organized in alphabetical order. The study highlights Suassuna's linguistic richness, highlighting his contribution to Brazilian literature, while valuing orality and popular experience as central elements of his work. The dissertation also seeks to contribute culturally to the preservation and dissemination of Northeastern culture in the national literary scene.
