SUMMARY:

The research aims to analyze the manifestations of linguistic beliefs and attitudes of residents of the quilombola community Mundo Novo, located in the rural area of Buíque- PE. The research seeks to explain the manifestations of linguistic beliefs and attitudes of the members of the Mundo Novo Quilombo and their educational repercussions. In other words, this work seeks to understand the manifestations of positive or negative valuation of the community's residents in relation to their speech, and how this valuation has repercussions in the community's educational sphere. In order to achieve the research objectives, a field study was carried out in the quilombola community of Mundo Novo. The interview included 13 female participants. The informants were selected on the basis of multidimensional dialectology, taking into account the diagenerational aspect, with the informants divided into three age groups: 18 to 30, 31 to 50 and 51 to 70, and the diastratic aspect, opting for schooling as the defining parameter of social class, resulting in the definition of two levels of schooling: elementary and high school. The technique used to collect data was intensive direct observation, which was followed by a semi-structured interview. The interview included 23 questions about the linguistic, cultural and social aspects of the interviewees, in order to understand their understanding of their language and the variant they use, as well as the relationship between their culture and community life linked to the language. As far as the theoretical framework is concerned, the research is based on the theoretical assumptions of Educational Sociolinguistics (Bortoni-Ricardo, 2005; Cyranka, 2016), on studies of linguistic beliefs and attitudes (Barcelos, 2007; Lambert & Lambert, 1972; Moreno Fernández, 1998), and on studies of linguistic stigma and stereotyping (Labov, 2008; Orsi, 2008). The analysis of the data collected will be based on observing the manifestation of attitudes, which, according to Lambert (1972), are made up of thoughts and beliefs, feelings expressed through emotions and the tendency to react. Based on the informants' answers to the questions asked, it will be possible to analyze their attitudes based on their beliefs.
