SUMMARY:

This research aims to analyze the treatment of linguistic variation in four collections of textbooks adopted in Pernambuco in the four spheres of teaching: municipal network, state network, application college and private school. All have been approved by the PNLD 2020 for the triennium 2023 for elementary education II, from a reflection around the curricular proposal of basic education II through the guiding documents from the National Curricular Parameters (PCN) to the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC). In general, we seek to analyze language variation as an object of knowledge, given that these official documents bring recommendation, recognition and respect for the language varieties existing in our country. The theoretical reference used in this research is based on the studies of Sociolinguistics (LABOV, 2008), more specifically, of Educational Socio-Linguistics (BORTONI-RICARDO, 2004; BAGNO, 2007). We emphasize the importance of this theory in promoting a practice based on the pedagogy of linguistic variation of effective appreciation of the different varieties and forms of use existing of Brazilian Portuguese as a mother tongue. For this study, we have adopted the procedure of document analysis of a qualitative/interpretative character as being a more appropriate method that meets the purpose of the research. So far, the preliminary results point out that the treatment of linguistic variation in the didactic books analyzed receives little in-depth, not satisfyingly addressing what is envisaged by the curricular proposal. In the collection intended for the municipality, the theme is treated as the object of knowledge in the 6th year and the 9th year, and in the collection dedicated to the state network only in the 7th and 9th years, the collection for the application college and the private teaching network will be treated and analyzed subsequently.
