  • This study aims to describe and interpret the process of implementing the Quota Policy for the children of PRONAF beneficiaries, agrarian reform settlers, and rural wage workers in Higher Education at the Campus Sousa of the Instituto Federal da Paraíba, considering the period from 2012 to 2022. To this end, a case study was conducted, grounded in a historical–organizational perspective and based on semi-structured interviews, with the purpose of understanding the experience of the IFPB from the perspective of quota students, considering the dimensions of access, retention, academic success, and empowerment in relation to the quota policy for rural students. The research findings indicate that the adoption of this affirmative action represented a significant advance in the democratization of access to higher education for a group historically excluded from the academic environment. However, there remains a set of mechanisms yet to be developed to ensure both the physical and symbolic sense of belonging of these quota students within the institution. At the conclusion of the study, Technical Products were developed, including the creation of a Peasantry Center within the institution, aimed at strengthening collectivity, senses of belonging, and rural identities, as well as a Draft Resolution designed to effectively establish guidelines and norms for improving the effectiveness of this necessary affirmative action policy focused on facilitating the entry of rural populations into undergraduate programs within the scope of the IFPB, serving as a model for other Federal Institutions nationwide

  • This thesis analyzes education in the remaining quilombola community of Águas
Claras, in Triunfo, Pernambuco, based on the “principles” and “actions” for Quilombola
School Education (Brasil, 2012). The qualitative and applied case study focuses on
three categories of analysis: a) the school structure and its social subjects; b) the
fundamental documentation for QSE in the school and the cultural autonomy of the
territory; c) community involvement in education, including the intersection of QSE in
other governmental spheres and consultation and participation through leadership.
The methodology encompassed participatory dialogues, document analysis,
observation, drawing workshop, and use of secondary data. The holistic interpretation
of the entire case was based on naturalistic generalizations and the agroecological
perspective as a social field. As part of the interpretation, content analysis was also
used. Three final products were produced: a photographic book, a drawing book, and
a university extension project aimed at creating didactic material. It is concluded that
the implementation of QSE, as a complex public policy and fundamental right, has not
yet been effected in the territory. The need for greater state and social action is
demonstrated to ensure an educational formation that extensively dialogues with the
community, its identity, culture, ways of life, traditional knowledge, ancestry, and
territorialities. The integration of agroecological practices in this construction can
strengthen the building of QSE by promoting territorial development and recognizing
the importance of the remaining quilombola community of Águas Claras for the entire
    Pajeú region.

  • The humid high-altitude are region sub-units that occur in the Brazilian semi-arid region and present themselves as “islands of humidity” in the Caatingas domain. The factors that make these areas possible are: exposure to wet advective trade winds and altitude. The swamp landscapes are being converted into agricultural areas, causing degradation and loss of local biodiversity. In this context, Agroecology, based on its principles, can favor processes of agroecological transition to ecologically based agriculture, in the search for sustainable use of natural resources and conservation of landscapes. Thus, the objective of the investigation is to analyze on the agroecological transition processes in the municipality of Brejo da Madre de Deus, located in the Agreste Central of Pernambuco. The “locus” of the research will be the exposition marsh of this municipality. This area encompasses about 7% of this territory, representing 50 km², and is located in an Environmental Protection Area - APA called Serras e Brejos do Capibaribe, where small properties predominate in which farming families carry out their agricultural activities. The investigation will take place through research using participatory methodology, called Peasant to Peasant, very widespread in Latin America especially in Cuba, where it acquired a dimension of movement. As expected results, there will be the scientific production of a thesis and at least one article on the main theme of this project; to enable family farmers to carry out a horizontal ATER process, based on the exchange of agroecological knowledge; in addition to the construction of an application for mobile devices with information about the entire process used in the use of the CaC methodology.

  • The modernization of agriculture has impacted rural development in Brazil, especially the techniques and technologies employed, resulting in unequal socioeconomic realities in rural areas. In contrast to this reality, a process of peasant resistance is underway, which proposes public policies that reduce inequalities, that seek the conservation of agro-ecosystems, and that guarantee the diversity of the food systems of local populations. And coexistence with the semi-arid region may present ways to face the historical problems of development, as well as point the way to innovations and social technologies adapted to local realities. In this work we intend to analyze 20 family production units in the municipality of Poço Verde - SE, Brazilian semiarid region, from an economic-ecological point of view, using quantitative and qualitative parameters and criteria regarding the management carried out by them. The objective is to identify practices that promote territorial development with agroecological principles. For this, it is proposed the Method of Economic-Ecological Analysis of Agroecosystems (LUME) to identify and evaluate the interrelationships between the different components of the agroecosystem in addition to dialogue and propose, together with the farmers involved, about the main vulnerabilities and potentialities of the agroecosystems analyzed for living with the semi-arid. As a final product of this study, we intend to produce videos for dissemination on the internet, which present the strategies of the families for living with the semi-arid, in the face of climate change and the modernization of agriculture.

  • The Green revolution has driven major changes across the planet. In Latin America, and Brazil was not left out, this change was quite strong in the peoples of the countryside. For a long time, the life form of the peasant it was based on family production units, but that the paradigm of the Green Revolution transformed into an individualists modes, supported by reductionist and exclusionary methods. Thus, it is necessary and urgent to resume the knowledge and values of the ancestors, values that are the basis for Agroecology. In the semi-arid region of Brazil, several experiences are being developed with the aim of overcoming exclusionary paradigms; an example of this is agroecological practices around productive mandalas. From the family production units around productive mandalas, this study is based on the hypothesis that the current systemic and agroecological paradigm, which are found in some capesine territories of the country region in northeastern Brazil, it is the link of reunion between the peasant life forms and the sciences, and after the displacement of the discourse to combat drought carried out by the coexistence with the Brazilian Semiarid and produce new narratives and incorporation of other sizes to agriculture. Its main objective is to identify, from a decolonial systemic comparative study, the practices and dimensions adopted by the family production units around the productive mandalas. The research will make a brief journey on the decolonial studies, talking with other theories, such as the Ecosystem Discursive Analysis, dialoguing with the Amazonian Andean systemic knowledge and the history of the Settlements of the Agrarian Reform and the locality. The relevance of the project lies in strengthening the identities, the territoriality of cam-pesinate, presenting a north for the understanding of productive mandalas while decolonial systemic knowledge; dissemination of procutive mandalas as peasant practices. Thus, it will be in latin american decolonial research and in the holistic/systemic view that this study will seek to analyze the influences and contribution of external conjuncture and the internal context in the development of productive mandalas, the analysis of the process of acquisition of the dimensions of agroecology, the valorization of ancestral systemic value and the process of transfer of knowledge collective, This research will start from the productive mandalas developed by family production unitslocated in the Sertão do Semiáriddo, in two Settlements of the Agrarian Reform in Pernambuco (Cachoeira dos Guilhermes and Caldeirões). The in-formations collected will take place between 2022 and September 2023. The study will make use of several sources, in the form of triangulation of methods in an interdisciplinary way.

  • The training of people for the social transformation in peasant territories has been a central focus of discussions on agroecological transition processes, whether in universities, social movements, public authorities or private initiatives. This thesis aims to contribute to strengthening the actions of teachers, students of basic education and technicians in Agroecology, with regard to educational processes that expand the agroecological transition underway in the municipality of Bonito, in the Agreste region of Pernambuco.

The methodology developed was transdisciplinary, with a qualitative focus, through a rigorous Action Research process, with the Pedagogy of Support for Sustainable Development (PEADS) as its methodological guideline. Over the last eleven years, the municipality of Bonito has become a reference in the region regarding the agroecological transition processes developed by various social actors for the transformation of peasant territories, mainly the Municipal Policy and Plan for Agroecology and Organic Production. The results revealed that the training processes must be integrated with local dynamics, especially with the problems faced by the communities, seeking the construction of agroecological knowledge and the paradigmatic rupture in schools and peasant communities.

The training of teachers in the initial and final years of elementary school has proven to be a powerful strategy for engaging students, families and technicians in Agroecology in the dialogic relationship between the school and the community to develop the Implementation Guide for the Reference School in Agroecology and Rural Education in the Municipal Public School Network, the final product of this thesis. The school has become an important actor in the training of people and the implementation of the public policy of Rural Education, as it incorporates Agroecology into the curriculum, creating interfaces between the guidelines of basic education and the reality of rural people. The commitment of the social actors participating in the process, especially the municipal public education managers and the collective subjects of the Rural Education and agroecological movements in the territory, indicate the importance and hope for a better future through social transformation and the quality of life of the local populations.

  • The qualitative nature of the study with a descriptive character stands out, complemented by bibliographical research, in addition to field observations, with the general objective of analyzing the current normative instruments, which were produced between the years 2016 and 2025 contained in the Brazilian federal legislation and whether there was a legislative omission regarding the issue that deals with Agroecology and its Agroecosystems, but also Agrifood Systems. In addition to the Thesis presented here, which was systematized and divided into four parts containing the introduction plus seven scientific articles distributed in three chapters, there is also the Technical Product resulting from the research, or rather, the final products, which are actually four, namely: a registered trademark called Doutor Sustentabilidade; in addition to a physical book, plus an e-book and an audiobook, as regards the results obtained, they demonstrated with all evidence that there is a legislative gap in relation to the research object studied here; therefore, only four normative instruments were found that deal with Agroecology and its repercussions in relation to the 2030 Agenda. Regarding the results obtained in the research, they demonstrated, in line with the problem presented in the initial question, that there is a lack of legal-normative instruments regarding the issue of agroecological transition in Brazil, which has the potential to greatly hinder the implementation of the agroecological transition plan proposed for agroecosystems and agri-food systems in Brazil

  • This research project will seek to reflect on the agroecological transition in family farming in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão-PE. Our interest in researching the processes of change for this new integrating matrix of knowledge in family farming arose from understanding, to verify during the research, that this new approach incorporates alternative models of agricultural production under the influence of ecological principles, management and technologies. In this perspective, new ethical behaviors come into force and govern social relations in the daily life of the territories, thus emerging different strategies that aim at the balance of agroecosystems and promote sustainable development in the territory. Still, agroecological science has the potential to promote more autonomous, fair and egalitarian social reproductions that guide the rational use of environmental resources available to meet their economic needs. Our initial look for transition will be from the influences of political subjects who interact in democratic spaces in the search for the (Re)establishment of direct links between farmers, society and the State in the pursuit of sustainable development of the territory. In this sense, it will be necessary to analyze the impacts of sectoral public policies for this paradigm shift in family farming. The theoretical framework initially permeates the following analytical categories: agroecology, family farming, political participation and sustainable territorial development. The methodological approach that we will use in this research part of the bibliographical research, complemented by the principles of exploratory documentary research, allied to the field research procedures. Every course will be traced based on the principles of the qualitative approach and under the influence of the principles of the hypothetical-deductive method

  • Living with the Semi-Arid is a paradigm under construction, which also presents itself as a sociopolitical project widely studied by the social, agrarian, environmental, and economic sciences. It requires a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to the semi-arid region and its people, as well as to the relationships established with the State, the Northeastern oligarchy, and the symbolic imagination that perpetuates stereotypes about this territory through time. As part of a more sustainable development paradigm, it can be understood as a counter-hegemonic process led by the Articulação Semiárido Brasileiro (ASA) through the implementation of water infrastructures of ideological, technological, and social appropriation nature.

In this thesis, we examine the P1+2 Program, which remains incipient in Southwestern Bahia compared to the pioneering program of the coexistence policy, P1MC. The research aimed to investigate how the social technologies of P1+2 have been appropriated by farming families and their functionality within family production units. To this end, the methodological procedures included the Characterization of Family Production Units—a tool used by social organizations to map, diagnose, analyze, and intervene contextually in the socio-productive space of families—along with bibliographical and documentary research, semi-structured interviews, systematic and participant observations, photographic records, and mapping activities.

The results showed that the social technologies of P1+2, once properly appropriated by families, enabled partial autonomy in food production and consumption, with minimal market dependence for inputs, and full autonomy from the market regarding what and how to produce—during periods without relative drought. We observed market exchanges of surpluses for monetary income supplementation, as well as reciprocal exchanges represented in the flow of donations among families.

The analysis of the Characterizations revealed deep-rooted gender inequalities, indicating that there is still a long way to go to achieve gender equity in the division of labor in rural areas—whether domestic or agricultural—as well as broader appropriation of the “calçadão” and “enxurrada” cisterns by women. However, the technical product presented in this thesis stems from the need to overcome the underutilization of the productive potential of cisterns, due to the non-use of water for production in economic garden beds, which directly impacts the reduction of family food diversity.

  • The process of agroecological transition is complex and requires on the part of the
producer, the awareness that he will face some challenges along this process.
Among the challenges faced, this research will highlight three: management of
agroecosystems, marketing and empowerment of the producer. To this end, the
research aims to evaluate the socioeconomic and productive sustainability of family
farmers who are members of the agroecological fair in the municipality of
Paripiranga. The research will be conducted through a case study, where all the
producers participating in the green fair will be accompanied and the information
collected through participant observation and interviews, to obtain data on production
planning, understanding and application of agroecological principles of production. In
addition to the producers, a sample of 700 consumers will be interviewed, where data
will be collected regarding the quality of the products and their perception of the
importance of producing agroecological food. The data collected will be analyzed
using the statistical software SPSS. The research is expected to identify the level of
understanding of the producers involved regarding the agro-ecological practices and
the management process of the agro-ecological properties. As a product of the
research, a manual will be developed with the objective of helping the processes of
management of agroecosystems and agroecological farms.

  • Native stingless bees or meliponines represent an important portion of Brazil's biodiversity. Such insects constitute an element of indispensable ecological importance in preserving the floral diversity of multiple Brazilian ecosystems. This category of insects, genuinely adapted to Brazilian biomes, consists of approximately 300 species of melipones classified into different genera. They produce honey with many peculiarities to be discovered. In addition to having features such as adaptations to prevent the deterioration of your food containers. Due to this mechanism, the various species of native bees have potential relationships with several already identified microorganisms. In this work, samples of Trigona spinipes honey collected in the Território do Sertão do São Francisco-PE were analyzed. The findings included six filamentous fungi, seven yeasts and fourteen bacteria. All analyzes were performed in triplicate and micro and macroscopic observation techniques and Gram staining were performed. The genus Bacillus was most frequent in bacteriological findings. For specific identification of each isolate, analyzes were carried out using molecular biology. The results obtained provide precedents for more detailed analyzes of the composition of microorganisms associated with Trigona spinipes and other species of stingless bees from the Caatinga, as the various species of native bees have potential relationships with several already identified microorganisms. These may be bioremediation relationships, use as bioinsecticides due to their entomopathogenic action, in bioprospecting and even as bioinputs that can assist agroecological practice. Preserving Arapuá certainly means providing sustainability for the various ecosystems, as it is a species that repairs degraded biomes

  • Brazil is at the center of the debate on agricultural economic models, as it has one of the greatest biodiversity and natural resources in the world. However, capitalism articulates its financial bias in the agricultural sector, whose logic is based on a model of agriculture “without people” and profit at any cost, resulting in the degradation of the environment and erosion of biodiversity. In contrast to this model is another project, which has as its central element the construction of food sovereignty, the production of healthy food, of which the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) is a part. The objective of this research was to develop a proposal for an Agroecological Transition Program for the MST settlements in Pernambuco, with a view to producing healthy food, strengthening the fight against hunger, as well as generating income for settled families. In addition, an experiential project was carried out with the aim of experiencing the use of CAC. The research was conducted based on action research and the Peasant to Peasant (CAC) methodology, also using bibliographical research based on secondary sources. The process was participatory, expanding the knowledge of the researcher, and in particular, of the peasant subjects involved both in the construction of the Agroecological Transition Program proposal and in the execution of the experiential project. A survey was carried out with the state leaders of the 19 MST regions, using semi-structured interviews, with the aim of identifying the families that will participate in the Agroecological Transition Program. Based on this information and some criteria, such as: number of lots developing transition experience, type of management practices they use and the desire to advance in the agroecological transition, the regional, settlements and camps were defined, as well as the 30 families with which rapid rural diagnosis (DRR) was applied. The DRR consisted of visits, participant observation of the batch, meetings and also semi-structured interviews. Finally, based on the results of the DRR and using other criteria, such as: use of soil cover, non-use of poison and willingness to advance in the agroecological transition, 11 agents promoting Agroecology (APA) were selected. With these 11 APA, courses, workshops, exchanges and joint efforts were held that culminated in the implementation of 12 agroecological agroforestry systems. The choice and consistent theoretical-practical training of these APA constituted the true essence of what CAC proposes. Well, the peasant only believes by seeing. And, in this sense, the DRR and the experiential project constituted an important starting point for the elaboration and implementation of the ten-year agroecological transition plan, based on the CAC, for the MST areas of Pernambuco. As products of this work, two audiovisuals were produced covering courses, exchanges, joint efforts and the step-by-step peasant-to- peasant methodology, in addition to the Agroecological Transition Program itself.

  • The Covid-19 pandemic forced us to leave our comfort zone and reinvent ourselves, in addition to giving greater visibility to structural processes of inequalities present, above all, in Brazilian society. Identifying programs, projects and actions developed within the scope of public policies, or actions promoted by popular initiatives, allow us to understand the challenges and impacts of this problem, and may reveal aspects linked to improving the quality of life of rural women, or the negligence of the state. regarding this topic. With this, this work has as main objective to identify the existence of public health policies for rural women residing in the Territory of Sertão do Pajeú-PE, within the scope of the federal, state and municipal governments, considering their general demands and the specific care for the health care. The research will be carried out from semi-structured interviews with subjects who live and/or work in the Territory, namely: rural women, leaders of social movements, members of the Municipal Public Management and professionals from Basic Health Units. The scientific result will be the writing of a thesis and other academic texts on the subject of this research, as well as two technical products, a documentary and a booklet, which will contribute to the empowerment of rural women, in terms of belonging, the defense of their rights and the valorization of sustainable health practices existing in the territory.

  • The study “Solidarity Economy and Agroecology: an analysis of the implementation of
strategic planning as a strengthening of self-management at ASSIM, Lagoa de Itaenga
    – PE”, analyzes the construction process of the participatory planning of an association
of family farmers, which carries out a work of organization and training with
agroecological producers in the North of a region called Zona da Mata in the State of
Pernambuco. The work, based on action research and participatory rural planning, was
built on popular education principles. With a critical look at the associative project and
the construction of collective self-management strategies, both in its historical
trajectory and in its current stage, one can see an advance in production and
commercialization, while self-management practices and reciprocal collaboration
stagnated. In this territory, where there are approximately 30 families of agroecological
producers who for twenty-five years have developed activities and actions based on
solidarity, unity and democratic participation, it was found through this work that it was
time to renew these practices and agree on strategies for the coming years considering
new convening ideas. With the action research, ASSIM associates were involved in
the construction of knowledge, through a planned process of interaction with the local
reality. In this way, the construction of a participatory rural diagnosis culminated in the
participatory strategic planning and finally became a political strategy, which starts
from a worldview and the identification of issues that have distanced ASSIM from the
characteristics of collective and participatory management, reacting to the necessity of
income generation appeals and focusing on commercialization processes. The product
of this thesis, participatory rural planning and its respective strategic plan, packed the
concrete intervention in the sense of seeking better institutional, economic and social
conditions for the entity's associates, as well as looking in more depth at the future of
the association. Finally, it is expected that at the end of the ongoing process, ASSIM
will be able to strengthen itself to conquer rights, reaffirm its territorial identity,
strengthen local leaders, improve collective decision-making processes, as well as
    boost production and marketing.

  • This thesis work analyzes the construction process of the municipal public policy of agroecology in the municipality of Bonito-PE, from the strategies of agroecological transition, the collective action and the incidence of the social actors and public entities that contributed for the strengthening of the territorial identity of Agroecology and the advancement of agroecological knowledge in the territory. The study had an interdisciplinary approach, whose approach was qualitative with quantitative complements, based on the methodology of the Pedagogy of Support to Sustainable Development (PEADS). The municipality of Bonito, located in the Agreste region, in the interior of the State of Pernambuco, is one of the experiences that we can mention in the state context, which has been accumulating significant results, especially in the last seven years (2015 – 2022) in terms of agroecological transition. The results indicate that the construction of agroecological knowledge resulted from a collective action in the territorialization of Agroecology driven by farmers, civil society organizations, legislative power, public management and teaching, research and extension institutions, which collaborated in the outlining of important strategies to strengthen the agroecological transition over the years, which materialized in the construction of the Policy and the Municipal Plan of Agroecology and Organic Production in the municipality. We understand that this initiative transcends the political-administrative sphere of municipal public management, it announces the construction of a socio-political project in which collective action was the starting point, based on a greater, common, shared purpose, making marginal demands of society were heard and prioritized in public policies, simultaneously satisfying society's aspirations, simultaneously advancing in the consolidation of preservation and conservation of the environment.

  • The dialogue between artisanal fisherwomen about the right to a healthy and sustainable environment is established as a new claim process for the improvement and quality of life of the traditional quilombola and fishing community, with its celebrated way of life, production and social reproduction. This study aims to analyze the methodological process of the research “Promotion of Healthy and Sustainable Territory (TSS) in Traditional Artisanal Fishing Communities, on Ilha de Maré, Salvador-BA”, for the promotion of health, Agroecology and territorial development, coordinated by the Oswaldo Cruz Brasília Foundation, from 2018 to 2022, on Ilha de Maré, Salvador-BA. It used a qualitative approach and bibliographical survey, mapping and analysis of documents, report related to the research, participant observation, semi-structured interviews and record of the oral narrative of artisanal fisherwomen that strengthened the deepening and the need for systematization of the experience in the territory. When developing the methodological process engaged with the TSS, this proved to be a relevant process by highlighting the territorial action to promote environmental health, in an agroecological perspective, with the social participation and autonomy of the subjects involved, assisted for the beginning of training processes. It concludes the importance of valuing and recognizing the fishing world and highlights the need for specific public policies aimed at this population. The TSS shows itself as an “radiography” of the territory and is capable of reapplication in other locations, with a formative and differentiated action, where the exchange of knowledge experienced in the praxis is strengthened between the researcher and as subjects who participated in the research, artisanal fisherwomen, protagonists of their own history.

  • The Brazilian semi-arid region is historically considered a lifeless place from the point of view of combating drought. In the 1980s, based on the struggle of social movements, a new paradigm was created: Living with the semi-arid region. The approach of Living with the Semiarid Region necessarily refers to multidimensionality and Popular Health, Education and Agroecology are three fields of knowledge that are of primary interest to us in this case. It is in this context that this case study is inserted, which aims to analyze the processes of training/action in Promotion and Surveillance in Health, Environment and Work (PVSAT) carried out in the states of Ceará and Pernambuco, within the scope of the Healthy Territories Project and sustainable in in the Semi-arid region, revealing the contributions of agroecology and Popular Health to the strengthening of the paradigm of Coexistence with the semi-arid region in the construction of Healthy and Sustainable Territories in the Semi-arid region. The study is of a qualitative nature and is characterized by a case study, using participant observation techniques and semi-structured interviews and using Bardin's content analysis as an analysis technique. Its results are expressed in the form of a thesis and technical product. The technical product developed was a software of sociotechnical networks formed from training-action processes and the thesis presents elements of the educational processes that brought closer the interlocution between health and agroecology in the perspective of good living.

  • This research aimed to investigate the practice of family farming in the municipality of Passagem, located in the Agreste region of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. The research problem was outlined based on the need to understand the sustainability of agroecosystems in this territory, considering its strengths and weaknesses. Initially, a diagnosis of the territory was carried out based on 30 indicators distributed in 5 dimensions of sustainability: environmental, technical-productive, economic-productive, socio-cultural and political-institutional. The data from this diagnosis were analyzed using the (S3)-Biogram methodology, which allowed the exposure and assessment of the sustainability of the agroecosystems studied for the 2022 agricultural year. Based on this assessment, an agroecological transition plan is being prepared for the territory under study, considering its strengths and weaknesses identified in the sustainability assessment. This research is qualitative and quantitative in nature, with a descriptive character, complemented by bibliographic research, field observations, interviews and photographic records. The sample consisted of 97 family units of agricultural production, covering all rural communities in Passagem-RN: Lagoa Redonda, Oliveira, Lagoa da Esperança, Iraq, Jacu dos Adelinos, Jacuzinho, Baixio, São Bento, Cipoal, Passagem de Baixo, Jenipapo, Canga and Seixo. Preliminary results confirm that the most vulnerable indicators are: A4 - Issues associated with land use and occupation; A5 - Environmental impacts caused to wild fauna; T5 - Practices to combat phytosanitary occurrences; E1 – Average monthly family income; E2 - Production flow; S4 - Rural violence and P4- Land regularization. In addition to the thesis, the technical product of this research is a Conclusive Technical Report, which is in the writing and layout phase, containing the results of the sustainability assessment, the proposed agroecological transition plan for agroecosystems, as well as guidelines that may support the municipal management teams and local rural extension, providing guidelines for necessary interventions in that territory.

  • The field of research addresses the decentralised management established by the 1988 Constitution, which aims to involve society as a protagonist through municipal, state and federal councils. In order to understand the motivating and driving elements of councillors in the control of public policies in their municipalities, this thesis analysed the functioning of the Municipal Councils for Sustainable Rural Development (CMDRS) of Caetés and São Bento do Una, in Pernambuco. The methodology adopted was qualitative-quantitative, exploratory, using the methods of habitus research, through the Life History of counsellors, and an analysis of non-parametric statistical data, of a social nature, of the actions of the councils based on the Social Management Index. The results showed that the exercise of social control is a continuous and ongoing learning process, strengthening both collectivity and democracy. The achievements come from a complex correlation of forces, requiring resilience, patience, hope and persistent and optimistic actions. The CMDRS act as agglutinating spaces, strengthening collectives of people who support each other. Through these councils, it is possible to integrate different perspectives and interests, promoting the active participation of family farmers, rural communities, government institutions, non- governmental organisations and other stakeholders. The diversity of voices contributes to the constant redefinition of comprehensive and inclusive strategies, capable of addressing the specific socioeconomic, environmental and cultural challenges of each municipality and territory. In conclusion, the research showed that CMDRS play a key role in decentralised management and in promoting social control of public policies for Family Farming. These councils provide spaces for dialogue, interaction and active participation, enabling the construction of more effective policies aligned with local needs. The work carried out by the counsellors is challenging, requiring constant engagement, but the results obtained demonstrate the importance of these initiatives to strengthen democracy and promote sustainable local development in rural communities.

  • Understanding the sciences of Indigenous Peoples is something challenging and thought-provoking, especially when one seeks to reflect on their ancestral knowledge, rites and the countless ways in which they use their know-how in the daily life of their territories. In this perspective, this thesis proposed an intercultural and countercolonial dialogue to understand the oral narratives inherent to the Pankararu Indigenous People, as well as their ancestral and cultural practices, in view of the existing connections between their know-how and academic concepts related to development ethnic-territorial, agroecology and health. From this perspective, a qualitative and dialogical approach was chosen, through semi-structured interviews, using interpretive discourse analysis, precisely to approach these connections, seeking to systematize them, listing their dimensions, their cultural flows and his techniques, which have been perpetuated over the centuries in the Pankararu territory. The result of the entire epistemological path culminated in the writing of the thesis, which presents other perspectives regarding the concepts of health, agroecology and ethnodevelopment or territorial development, in addition to the elaboration of scripts for webseries - presented as final products of the research -, whose themes are addressed reflect on the ethnic complexity of the territory, bearing in mind the phenomena inherent to the life and cosmoperception of this Indigenous People who inhabit the semi-arid region of Pernambuco.

  • The challenge of providing populations living in rural areas of the Semiarid Region with the prerogatives necessary for them to be the central protagonists in the construction of their history and way of life has stimulated studies on the strategic articulation between contextualized training of teachers and sustainable development. The teaching performance has a multidimensional character and expressive potential for transversality, being able to integrate the institutional attributions of the school-space to the redefinition of practices and knowledge, such as the agroecological field. Therefore, this research sought to understand the extent to which the principles of Education in Agroecology underlie the Continuing Education course in Contextualized Education for Living with the Semiarid, developed in Afogados da Ingazeira, in partnership with the JoaquimNabuco Foundation. The methodological design was structured based on a qualitative approach, considering the research procedures organized in document analysis, bibliographical research and field research, with the application of a structured questionnaire and participation in agroecology events. It was based on the assumption that Education in Agroecology and Contextualized Education for Coexistence with the Semi-arid Region, having in common the political-pedagogical principle of interaction between the knowledge of peasant work and scientific knowledge, in a process of teacher training, would establish dialogue with significant production of analyses. It was noticed that the Principles of Education in Agroecology are linked to the theoretical-methodological axis and to the political-pegogical principles of the Continuing Education course in Contextualized Education for Living with the Semiarid Region. Considering all the convergences and relationships, in addition to this thesis, the construction and publication as a Municipal Law, within a democratic and participatory process, of the Municipal Education Policy Contextualized for Coexistence with the Semiarid and Agroecology, in Afogados da Ingazeira, presents itself as final product of the research work, being a concrete intervention to the questions listed by the research.

  • Literacy represents an individual's ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, based on printed and written materials. Health Literacy (HL) encompasses the ability to encode and decode any health information, representing rights that must be guaranteed by the State: education and health. When it comes to health in the countryside, there are conditions resulting from the environment that negatively affect health, especially in the female rural population. This work aims, therefore, to understand the level of HL of women living in a rural community in the interior of Bahia, in addition to their sociodemographic profile and the prevalence of predominant diseases. This was a qualitative-quantitative, cross[1]sectional cohort study, using interviews to apply collection instruments. An inadequate LS was found in 63.5% of the sample, influenced by the level of education and socioeconomic classification. The results represent an exclusionary society and LS emerges as an alternative to improving female protagonism in their own lives, health and society. Therefore, greater attention should be given by the State to the population residing in rural areas, especially women, in addition to that provided for in the National Policy for Comprehensive Attention to Women's Health, in order to ensure that they have the necessary skills to access , understand, evaluate and apply health information in the face of the peculiar difficulties imposed by the living condition in which they are inserted.

  • The Boleiras de Normandia are rural women who live in the Normandia settlement in Caruaru, Pernambuco. They have stories of life and struggle that are constantly repeated in other territories. The political and ideological confrontations inherent in the process of winning rights give new meaning to their collective identity and the relationships they establish with the territory. The study analysed how the women's group "Boleiras de Normandia", through agroecological practices, the valuing of local knowledge and the search for food sovereignty, has achieved autonomy from the perspective of feminist economics and solidarity economics. The diversified strategies are helping the group to improve their quality of life and achieve greater emancipation, giving new meaning to productive and reproductive labour practices. The methodology used was qualitative with quantitative complements from an action research perspective, with the use of agroecological notebooks as the central tool. It also sought to encourage women's participation in action-reflection-action on their own condition, in order to strengthen agroecological practices and territorial identity. The final product of the study was a "Guide to the Production and Marketing of Agroecological Products by Rural Women" and the link to the promotion of autonomy and food and nutritional sovereignty for their families, as well as the creation of references for other rural women, based on this example, can understand the stages of the process from a practical reality experienced in the settlement. This research shows that women play a leading role in the processing and commercialisation of their products at agroecological fairs and in the qualification of production, taking on an important role in the production process, as well as contributing effectively to building ways of overcoming situations of gender and socioeconomic inequality.

  • The research arises from the need to understand the economic, social, cultural and environmental organization around the fish farming activity in the lakes of the São Francisco River in Pernambuco, located in the Semiarid Region. Local fish farming is related to the productive and economic expansion that the activity has registered in the last decade, which reflects on the GDP of municipalities that had areas submerged by flooding caused by dams and other impactful interventions incited by the State. We know that the regional agricultural and livestock economic base – originating from traditional activities, such as goat farming and horticulture – suffers from limitations or drops in production, primarily due to climatic factors, area and land ownership, chain disorganization or disregard for sustainable perspectives. Thus, the investigation aims to analyze fish farming with a view to the existing relationships between social and environmental environments, since fish farmers organized in a solidarity economy and inserted in family farming policies conduct the action. To this end, systematic closed questionnaires were applied to subjects affected by the dam, based on issues of economy, society, culture and environment. Semi-structured interviews were also carried out about the perception of the subjects about their daily lives, as well as the social and economic manifestations, which contributed to the construction of the productive arrangement of fish farming. The data were treated as quali-quantitative indicators, in order to interpret the reality presented, respecting the individuality and preserving the anonymity of the participants. Furthermore, it was possible to observe the singularity of the actors' interactions with the social, cultural, economic and environmental universe that integrates them. The socioeconomic consequences arising from the implementation of the activity were identified, as well as the determining factors for the implementation of compensatory actions for the displaced populations, in addition to the strategies of adaptation of those affected to the new spaces of social reproduction. It was concluded that the activity enables the interaction between the actors that develop it from traditional knowledge inherent to the peasant people, guiding forms of socioeconomic subsistence in the locality. However, as a "final product", an operational technical manual was developed that allows the replication of the assisted experience – regarding its organization and principles – in other locations affected by compulsory displacement due to the flooding of territories, presenting, above all, an effective tool for coexistence with the semiarid region.

  • The Alternative Food Network (RAA) transcends the Industrial Agro-Food System and consolidates itself in the collaborative relationship, which permeates the context of production and consumption of healthy foods, with the countryside and the city. It highlights the socio-productive inclusion in the promotion of Territorial Agro-Food Systems (SAT) with emphasis on ecological practices, social technologies and Short Circuits (CC). This converges with the promotion of healthy eating with Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security (SSAN), at the intersection of people and institutions, which weave the production chain in the context of Social Management. The Interinstitutional Agroecological Fair (FIA) since 2019 weaves this intersection in the rural territories of the State of Goiás. And in the city of Goiânia, it was carried out at the Federal Institute of Goiás (IFG), the Federal Institute of Goiás (IF Goiano) and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG). In 2020 and 2021, as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, it was adapted to the virtual format, with the process that deals with this transition being the focus of the research on screen. From this perspective, the general objective of the research was to describe and analyze the operation of the Virtual Inter-Institutional Agroecological Fair (FIAV) in the context of food production and supply. As the methodology chosen, the existential/integral action research, carried out in 2021 and 2022 with FIAV family farmers. Research and technical and technological products were developed horizontally and dialogically in the light of popular and scientific know-how, transcending the economic-mercantile dimension and in convergence with agroecology. FIAV is an RAA, so its operation promoted healthy eating with SSAN. Among the challenges encountered, there is that of family farmers (re)existing the socio-environmental impacts of the Industrial Agro-Food System and having access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in order to comply with the inter-institutional specificities of the FIAVs

  • In this thesis work, we analyze the process of expansion of Agroecology in the state of Alagoas in agrarian reform territories. The study involved the systematisation of a territorial strategy for the creation of a Guarantee Participatory System (GPS) where families were settled. These changes in the regime of land use and ownership have meant an increase in the amount and in the diversity of food produced in the agrosystems, above all when socioproductive experiences are deeply rooted in the agroecological principles. The objective of this work is to describe and analyze the socio-territorial process of creation of the GPS Bem Viver in the context of agrarian reform settlements in the state of Alagoas. The study area comprised the settlements of Flor do Bosque, Dom Helder Câmara, Zumbi dos Palmares, Sebastião Gomes and Fidel Castro, respectively situated in these towns: Messias, Murici, Branquinha, Flexeiras and Joaquim Gomes. It is an interdisciplinary research, associated with the action-research method and the peasant-to-peasant method. As data collection instruments, a process of systematization of experiences was used, five semi-structured questionnaires were applied, in addition to records in the field diary and collection of secondary data on food production in lots of the Dom Hélder Câmara and Flor do Bosque settlements. The results show that the families inserted in the agroecological and organic based production are responsible for a diversity productivity increase of 48% in Flor do Bosque and 39% in Dom Helder Câmara. In both cases, we noticed the presence of families that do not have yet the legal land possession, but have already an organic and agroecological production. This is particularly important because it directly involves the unfoldings of peasant territorialization in these settlements. Finally, the characteristic of organic production carried out within the scope of the agrarian reform and experimented in the process of constituting the GPS proved to be distinct from the trend towards specialization of production and conventionalization of agriculture practiced in the globalized food market with organic certification.

  • The Atlantic Forest has a high diversity of flora, forming a complex system with a high degree of endemism. Being considered one of the 25 hot spots for biodiversity conservation. In this environment, plants that can be used for food draw attention. The objective was to investigate the factors that lead some people not to use certain plants in their food, despite going through possible food deprivation and having knowledge of the nutritional potential of certain vegetables. In addition to encouraging the use of Non-Conventional Food Plants (PANC) and strengthening the sovereignty and food security of peasant families. This thesis was developed at a regional level, which included three municipalities in southern Bahia in an agroforestry system known as “cabruca”. To obtain the data, the methodology of research-action was used, with empirical observations, theoretical investigations, gastronomic workshops, based on a qualitative and quantitative approach, taking into account the quantity and variety of non-conventional plants, which the /participants indicated knowing and using with potential for food use and discussing the acceptance of PANC in local food. Didactic material capable of assisting in the identification, dissemination and use of PANC was also provided.
